Earl met Ada Cox Rozine on a corner of 5th and State Ave, married in 1937, Reno, KS. Mutual friends Alva and Eva Mae introduced them. They lived in Edwardsville, KS on small farm. Joan was born in 1938 on this farm. Moved to 18th and Missouri railroad tracks, Kansas City, KS where they lived free of rent in return of watching boathouses. Raymond, Susan and Baby Boy (deceased ) was born in this place. Bessie Vonderberghe, next door neighbor, Lamberts were other neighbors. Earl and Ada lived close to paddlewheel boat that was changed into a gambling and drinking place. It wasn't unusal to go out in the early mornings and find drunken sailors passed out in their yard.. They lived between railroad tracks and Kaw ( Kansas River). Uncle Ernie worked on the railroad and would often stop to visit, coming by on a railroad pump car with his friend stranger. Earl broke his arm cranking our car. He was working for Dodge Furniture. Mr Dodge gave him $25/wk not to turn it into the union. He drove a truck for Parker Transfer before Dodge Furniture. Around 1938 the WPA hired Earl to work on Wyandotte Lake Dam project, he was an unskilled laborer making $49/month for 107 hrs of work. Family moved to Sanduskly Rd, Kansas City, KS in 1945. Carolyn born here. Earl gave $1600 for home and acerage. Opened Ada's Cafe, Rosedale, KS. Earl ran Cafe and Ada cooked. 1950's traded house on Sandusky with Margaret Woodard and her husband for house at 324 N 33rd, KC, KS.

Ada spent most of her life cleaning houses for other people. She cleaned for Dr & Mrs Sherry, KCKS (Dentist), Porter & Sons Funeral Home and the 2 Porter brothers who owned it. Mr and Mrs Adams. Plus several others. She worked 6 days a week for $2 per day. Mr and Mrs Adams of Quindaro St, KCKS, loved her so much they gave her a raise to $5 per day, she workded Mondays and Fridays for them. The both left her $500 in their wills. Her funeral was held at Porter & Sons Funeral Home, KCKS where she had worked for many years.

In her later years she went to Hawaii to visit daughter Joan and loved it so much she moved there with youngest daughter Carolyn. But being in paradise didn't mean she wouldn't have to work. She took a houskeeping job with the Doris Thomas family of Wailae Kahala Hawaii. She worked for them for 13 years then returned to Kansas. Years after moving back to Hawaii, Ada and Earl sold the house on 33rd Street, KCKS and bought a trailer that was on daughter's land in Basehor, KS and moved there to be closer to family in old age. After Earl died, Ada went down hill and started to forget things. One night in a snow storm she walked 1 country block (almost a mile) to the neighbors house in houseslippers and a sweater. She said she was scared to be by herself. She didn't remember doing this. Fearing for her safety if left alone, the children decided to take her to live at Edwardsville Nursing Home, Edwardsville, KS. Hating the place at first, she grew to like it and wouldn't go out as she was afraid she wouldn't be back in time and she would be missed.

Ada was a Baptist and would always attend Church, nothing would stop her from going. Not knowing how to drive she would take the children and walk (no matter how far) to Church.
