March 5, 1942

Lewis M. Duckworth was born in Lucas county, Iowa, on April 23, 1857, and departed this life on Feb. 25, 1942, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 2 days. He lived almost his entire life in Lucas county, with exception of a few years spent in California.

He was married to Nancy Ellen Shore on Jan. 5, 1879, who passed away in 1938. To this union eight children were born, three daughters, Mrs. Lettie R. Maddy, of Fonda; Mrs. Sadie C. McDonald and Mrs. Grace M. Whittlesey of Russell; four sons, Roy, of Farmersville, New York who was unable to attend the last rites; Emery and George of Russell, and Walter, of Latimer, Iowa. One son died in childhood. Besides his children, he leaves to mourn their loss, 42 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harriet R. Shore of Chariton and Mrs. Tillie Shore of Tulare, Calif.

He was an honest, upright citizen and will be greatly missed by his loved ones. He was very patient during his illness and was concious unto the end.

Funeral services were held at the Zion church Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 o'clock a.m., conducted by Rev. A.E. Beals, assisted by Rev. Garold B. Noland. Interment was in the Zion cemetery.

Pallbearers were six of his grandsons, Glen Duckworth, Ralph Whittlesey, Ward Duckworth, Neil Duckworth, Howard McDonald and Clell Duckworth.
