Samuel Murray Dies Tuesday Of Heart Attack

Funeral services for Samuel Ashby Murray, 67, Ashley Valley pioneer of 1884, will be held today (Thursday) in the Vernal First Ward Chapel with Bishop Pontha Calder presiding.

Death occured Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the family home of a heart attack following an illness of several weeks.

Mr. Murray was born September 26, 1874 at Spanish Fork, Utah, the son of Jerry and Mary Ashby Murray and came to the Ashley Valley with his parents when ten years of age, settling in Maeser.

On November 20, 1895, he married Jane Hansen at Spanish Fork, returning to the Ashley Valley where they have since made their home.

Besides his widow he is survived by the following children: Samuel A. Murray Jr., Grand Junction; Colorado; Mrs. Mary Beers, Thompson, California; Cecil Murray, Vernal; Mrs. Viola Swain, Vernal; Mrs. Veda Labrum, Roosevelt; Mrs. Jacobsen, Glenora, Nevada; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Mary Merkley, Vernal; Mrs. Margaret Harrison, Lapoint; Hatch Murray, Vernal; Joseph Murray, Sacramento, California; also 10 grandchildren.

Interment will be made in the Maeser Cemetery under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home.

Funeral Held for Samuel Murray

Funeral Services for Samuel A. Murray, 67, were held Thursday at 3 p.m. under the direction of the ward bishopric with counselor Dick Rust conducting. There are many beaustiful floral offerings in evidence,

The opening prayer was by George A. Slaugh and the benediction was pronounced by Charles P. Fox.

A quartet composed of Mrs. Mae Jorgensen. Mrs. May Calder, Chellus Caldwell and Karl J. Engar sang "Truth Reflects Upon Our Senses" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," was a duet by Mrs. Mrs. Jorgensen and Mrs. Calder. Milton Judd sang, "The Rosary." Mrs. Mable Stagg was the accompanist for all numbers.

Speakers were Carl Richens and H. Walter Woolley.

Pallbearers were Glen Murray, Russell Harrison, Jay Merkley, Joe Murray, Carl Harrison and Sidd Merkley.

Interment was in the Maeser Cemetery under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home. The grave was dedicated by Jerry Harrison, former Bishop of Lapoint.
