Merkley Funeral Held Wednesday At Maeser Chapel.

Funeral services were conducted at Maeser Wednesday For Mary Lovina Murray Merkley, 74, who died Sunday afternoon in the St. Marks' Hospital in Salt Lake City following a lingering illness.

The opening musical selection was a duet by Earl and May Calder, "Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling." Mark M. Hall offered the invocation. Corwin Snow of Jensen sang, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," and Walter Wooley was the first speaker, In his address he read a tribute composed by Mrs. Edfar Taylor in memory of Mrs. Merkley.

Mrs. Albert Smith and Mrs. C. E. Merkley of Tridell sang a duet "In The Garden." C. L. Richens was the concluding speaker.

Bishop Harvey McKee made closing remarks and Mrs. Leo Hacking sang, "Perfect Day." Benediction was offered by Joseph Bodily.

Pallbearers were Roland Merkley, Arvid Merkley, Lorin Merkley, Earl Merkley, William Varley and DalMain Martinsen, all grandchildren.

Mrs. Merkley was born at Spanish Fork, January 27, 1873, a daughter of Jeremiah and Mary Murray and came to Vernal at the age of 11. She met and married Charles A. Merkley, a prominent farmer and rancher. Mrs. Merkley spent her entire life here until two years ago when she moved to Salt Lake.

Survivors include four daughters; Emmeline Varley and Clara Nelson, Salt Lake; Gertrude Britt, Tacoma, Washington; and Sarah Engberson, Oakland California; five sons: Murray of Jensen; Joseph, Sidney and Ward of Vernal and Jay Merkley of Emmett, Idaho. In addition to the following brothers and sisters: Hatch and William Murray and Margaret Harrison of Vernal; Joseph Murray of Sacramento. Two half brothers also survive her, John Murray of Vernal and Jerry Murray of Roosevelt.

Burial was at the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of the Swain Funeral Home, with Verdin Johnson dedicating the grave.

She married Charles Albert Merkley May 28, 1888 in Vernal, Utah.
