A resident of Gloster, Miss., and a native of Amite County, Miss., he died on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. He was 72 and a retired plant operator with Allied Signal. He was born on May 8, 1934, to the late Robert Huey Tims [sic Bateman] and the late Gladys Tims Bateman.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Doll Roberts Bateman of Gloster; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffery "Scooter" and Anna Bateman of Central, Bill and Lisa Bateman of Liberty, Miss., and Brent and Kim Bateman of Gloster; six grandchildren, Trevor, Megan and Dylan Bateman, all of Central, Brooke Andrews and husband Josh Andrews of Liberty, Emily Bateman of Liberty, and Brandon Bateman of Gloster; a sister, Ottrice Holland of Zachary; and a brother, Excell Bateman of Natchez, Miss. Mr. Bateman is also survived by his beloved dog, "Ernie."

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James K. and Moselle Bateman.

Mr. Bateman was a member of Royal Chapel Methodist-Protestant Church in Gloster. He was also a veteran of the U.S. military.

Visiting at Brown Funeral Home, Gloster, on Thursday, Sept. 28, was from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Friday from 10 a.m. until religious service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Max Foreman and the Rev. Stacy McCollum. Interment in Roseland Cemetery, Gloster.

Pallbearers will be Warren Holland, Sammy Kirkland, Cliff Bateman, Ken Swims, James Haley and Josh Andrews. Honorary pallbearers are his grandsons, Trevor, Dylan and Brandon Bateman.
