The Democrats lost a vote on Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2008, when Amber Louise "Mickey Magee" Butala took her vote to a higher poll.

She was born in Dillon on Dec. 21, 1936, to Charles R. and Amber Stark Magee. Mickey was an inveterate reader, very artistic, and she loved to cook. She never met a stranger - everyone was a valued friend. Her family extended to the students she taught through the years, starting her career first in her hometown of Dillon, and retiring from Hawthorne School in Helena in 1992. She spent every day since retiring helping to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and constantly planting flower gardens.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and her older sister Margaret Brazill (Drummond).

Staying to keep the political battle going are her older sisters, Montana Brazill of Ephrata, Wash., Norma Daly of Butte, and younger brother David (Ruth Anne) Magee of Twin Bridges. She is also survived by her children, Tracy (Elaine) of Montana City, Randy (Shilo) of East Helena, and Robin Steffan (Mike Hossfeld) of Helena; grandchildren, Courtney (Jon) Smith, Ian Steffan, Samantha Steffan (Nathan Miller), Allyssia Bushnell, Zachary (Amy) Butala; and step-grandchildren, DJ Poynter, Crystal, Amber and Shawna Kackley, and David, Tim (Audra) and Danielle Brewer.

Burial will be in Dillon.
