Born Dec. 16, 1909 in York County, he was the son of the late Martin and Carrie Singley Shaffer.
A member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Orrtanna, he was employed by Baltzley Fruit Farms and the C.H. Musselman Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1974.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Hope Spence Shaffer; two daughters, Maysie E. McGlaughlin of Biglerville and Deborah H. Shelleman of Fayetteville; seven sons, Richard M., Dean V., Eugene E. and Rodney L., all of Biglerville, Clark D. of New Oxford, Timothy J. of Dillsburg and Kenneth D. of Middletown; a sister, Ethel Kepner of Fairfield; four brothers, Raymond of Chambersburg, Ivan of Rochester, N.Y., Roy of East Berlin and Kenneth of Dover; 25 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Orrtanna, with the Rev. Dr. Colin Shaffer officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, is in charge of arrangements.
