Martin L Shaffer, 86, formerly of East Berlin R1, died Saturday at 10:45 p.m. at the Brethren Home, New Oxford R1, where he resided the past two months. He leaves 114 lineal descendents.
A native of near Nashville, he was a son of the late George A and Susan Lentz Shaffer and was the husband of Mrs. Lorena Clary Shaffer, a resident of Michael Manor Home, Gettysburg. His first wife, Mrs. Carrie Singley Shaffer, died in 1935.
A member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, he was a retired carpenter and a life member of Gettysburg Lodge of the Loyal Order of Eagles.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are; eight children, Elmer E Shaffer, Biglerville; Luther M Shaffer, Fairfield; Raymond B Shaffer, Chambersburg; Roy P Shaffer, East Berlin; Ivan A Shaffer, Rochester, N.Y.; Kenneth E Shaffer, Dover; Mrs. Ethel P Kepner, Fairfield; Mrs. helen M Signor, Baltimore; 37 grandchildren; 65 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; four brothers, George Shaffer, York; Robert Shaffer, Dover; Edward Shaffer, Manchester; Paul S Shaffer, Mechanicsburg; four sisters, Mrs. Lottie Jacobs, Jacobus; Mrs. Chester Baker and Mrs Clair Strausbaugh, both of York and Mrs. George Dohn, Shiloh.
His minister, Rev. Joseph Seaman, will officiate at the funeral on Wednesday at 2:00 from the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the cemetery adjoining the church.
