Richard "Dick" M. Shaffer Sr., of Gettysburg, departed this life for eternal rest February 5, 2007.

Born in Mount Carmel, PA, November 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Elmer and Hope (Spence) Shaffer.

Dick was a long time member of the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren where he served as an usher for 40 years, he was a former church board member, former Sunday school superintendent, and a member of the church softball league. He was the farm manager at C.H. Musselman from 1950-1984 and at Fremont Kuntz from 1984-2001 and was a former member of the Adams County Fruit Grower's Association as well as the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. Dick was a charter member of the Bendersville Fire Company. He attended Arendtsville Vocational School and in his youth, played on the Arendtsville baseball team of the South Penn League. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren's sporting events.

He was the husband of Edith "Edie" (Miller) Shaffer of Gettysburg to whom he was married for 57 years and surviving, in addition to her, are one son, Richard M. Shaffer Jr. of Biglerville; two daughters, Carolyn N. Black of Arendtsville, Gayle K. Ingle of East Berlin; five grandchildren; one great-grandsonr; six brothers, Dean Shaffer of Biglerville, Eugene Shaffer of Biglerville, Clark Shaffer of New Oxford, Rodney Shaffer of Shippensburg, Timothy Shaffer of Dillsburg, Kenneth Shaffer of Middletown; two sisters, Maysie McGlaughlin of Biglerville, Deborah Shelleman of Fayetteville; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
