Lorell Gaynelle Horn Harman passed away at the age of 79 , a victim of the cruel disease known as Alzheimer's, on May 26th. Her heart was happy and was looking forward to joining the love of her life & husband in heaven.
Born in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of Letcher Lewis Horn and Josie Bell Addison Horn. Her family moved to Tazewell County where she lived most of her childhood. Gaynelle lived in Washington DC for a period where she met and fell in love with her husband, Ralph Eugene "Gene" Harman. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage, renewing their vows on their 53rd wedding anniversary. A few years after their marriage, they moved back to Southwest Virginia where Gaynelle lived with her family for the next 50 years. Gaynelle loved her family, she was a loving wife, caring mother, and doting grandmother. Of all her accomplishments, the one she liked the best was being called Nana.

Gaynelle was employed for 40 years at Southwest Virginia Community College working in the office of Admissions. She was a member of the First United Methodist church. Gaynelle enjoyed watching sunrises and sunsets, spending time with her family, traveling, walking on the beach, and scrapbooking. Gaynelle received her bachelor's degree from Bluefield College.

Gaynelle is survived by both of her daughters, Kimberley Harman Harrison and husband Rev. Mike Harrison of Pikeville, KY and Terrie Harman Coburn and husband Dr. Ernest Coburn of Indian Trail, NC. Gaynelle had five grandchildren, a grandson and four granddaughters. Known as Nana to her grandchildren Eric Dye and wife Prany of Huntersville, NC, Trista Bednarik and husband Brandon of Mt. Holly, NC, Hannah Harrison of Roanoke, VA, Jillian Harrison of Pikeville, KY, and Courtney Whitt and husband Bryan of Pounding Mill, VA. She had two great grandchildren, Asher Bednarik and Amelia Lowe. Gaynelle enjoyed taking her grandchildren to practices, recitals , and tea parties.

Gaynelle was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Eugene Harman, her parents Letcher & Josie, three brothers Elden Horn, Albert "Elmer" Horne, Teddy Horn, two sisters Allene Strouth and Ruby Rood. She is survived by one brother, Ira Horne of Richlands, VA, two sisters,Betty Warburton of Lebanon, VA, and Beatrice Kruckow of La Plata, MD. Special thanks to Dr. Kenneth Hess, Legacy Hospice, and special friends Pam Robbins, Kathy Proffitt Hubbard, and Loretta Smith for all their care during her final days.

Visitation for Gaynelle will be starting at 11:30am for her family members and 12:00pm for friends of her family at Singleton's Funeral Home in Cedar Bluff, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00pm at Singleton's on Thursday, June 2nd. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl 17 Chicago, IL 60601.
Gaynelle was truly a lady. She will be missed for her ability to be positive and to see the best of any situation. Gaynelle enjoyed spending time with her family and always put them first. She is now in heaven walking hand in hand with her husband and visiting her family there.
