Sallie Moyers, born Sarah Jane Jones, September 3, 1818, married August 16, 1832 in Rhea County, Tennessee to Wyley Moyers. They lived in Tennessee until after the 1870 census where they were found in Rhea County, Tennessee, then moving by traveling down river on a barge with several of their children, to Limestone County, Alabama where Wyley died in 1872, it is not known where Wyley is buried. There are two locations that could possibly be a burial location for him but there is no stone for his grave. Family lore is that he died while en route down river and was buried along the riverbank but it is written in his brother Tice's bible that he died on October 19, 1872 in Limestone County, Tennessee. It is also family lore that while traveling down river the barge got stuck in the mud due to the low tide of the season and that the family got off the barge until it was time for the water to rise and after the death of Wyley they made their home in Limestone County where he was buried.
It is very possible that Sallie may have been a lover of music and maybe even played a piano as there was an upright piano that traveled down river on the barge with the family. It had to have been a prize possession of the family to have been brought with them. This piano was saved from a house fire when her grandson Alford Whitten's home burned in Limestone County, Alabama. This piano is today still in the Moyers family, owned by one of Alford Whitten's granddaughters. Alford Whitten was the son of Sallie son, Rufus Sherrill. Sarah "Sallie" died 25 years after the passing of her beloved Wyley and was buried in Wallace Cemetery along with some of her daughters, Elizabeth, Nancy, and Sallie P. Her sons Albion Bruce and Rufus Sherrill were buried in Tanner Cemetery also in Limestone County, Alabama.
Another daughter Mary Jane "Mollie" Moyers Carr is buried in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Giles County, Tennessee.
Son George Jacob "Jake" is buried in Summerville Cemetery in Summerville, Ga.
Son, Mathias Andrew "Tice" is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Gainesville, Texas
Daughter Ann is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Ashville, Buncombe County, North Carolina
It is not known where their daughter Cassandra is buried as she was not located after the 1860 census where she was 12 years old and still living with her parents in Rhea County, Tennessee.
Son Robert is buried somewhere in Lauderdale County, Alabama where he made his home as an adult.
Son John has not been located after the 1880 census..
