HENRY SMITH DEAD
Founder of the Highland Cemetery
Henry Smith, an old settler of this city and county, died at 7:30 o'clock this morning at his home, 2704 East Ninth street. His death was caused by an injury he received a month ago by falling from his porch at night. He was injured internally and had been failing since the accident.
Mr. Smith founded the Highland cemetery. He was the owner of the land west of Hillside avenue and between Ninth and Thirteenth streets He platted the southeast corner of this land and started the cemetery, which was sold to the Maple Grove cemetery company some ten or twelve years ago.
He is survived by a wife and seven children, of whom three are married: The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence. Interment will be made in the family lot in Highland cemetery.
