---Phillip Sheridan "Sherd" Shumaker, eighty-nine of La Plata, died last Tuesday in a Kirksville hospital. Mr. Shumaker had spent his entire life as a farmer. He was the last of a large family.
---He was born on November 22, 1868 in Adair County.
---He was married to Miss Effie May Bragg and thirteen children were born to them.
---He was preceded in death by his wife in 1951 and two daughters, Mrs. Ina Belle Young and Blanche and a son, Raymond Earl.
---Survivors include five sons, John D. of Otisville, Michigan, Foster of Gaines, Michigan, William Howard in the Marine Corps, Roy at home and Donald of Davison, Michigan; five daughters, Mrs. Alta Marie Langford, Mrs. Mamie Edith Rose and Mrs. Ruby Leota Strom, all of Flint, Michigan, Mrs. Esther Adeline Wortman of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Mrs. Nancy Hazel Thompson of La Plata and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
