John Francis Lowrance (Jack) was born September 18, 1870 in McNairy County, Tennessee. He was the oldest son of David Marion Lowrance and Finetti Jane (Keeton) Lowrance.

John Francis married Sarah Ellen Day on September 18, 1894 at Centerpoint, Texas. Two children were born in Texas, John David and Jocie May. In 1899 the family moved to Greer County, Oklahoma. This was Indian Territory, as Oklahoma did not become a state until 1907. John Francis filed a claim on 160 acres of land six miles north of Willow, Oklahoma, at an area that is known as Chalk Bluff. The family lived in a tent and hauled water while they cleared the land and built a dugout home.

Here at Chalk Bluff the following children were born: Rachel, Nora, Minnie, Ted, Charles, and Francis. John Francis was a farmer, and although the dates are not clear, the family at one time lived in Delhi where John Francis and his son John owned a garage. They did repair work and also sold new Maxwell and Overland Automobiles.

October 25, 1921 a spark at the Lowrance garage caused a fire which burned down most of the town of "Old Delhi". The Delhi Post office moved to a location near the new school building and "Old Delhi" ceased to exist.

Sarah Ellen (Day) Lowrance died September 12, 1941. John Lowrance died December 18, 1951. They are buried near each other and other family members at Spring Creek Cemetery.

My great grandpa.
