David Marion Lowrance was born February 10, 1834 in Mcnairy County, Tennessee. He was the son of Jacob Lowrance and Susan (Gage) Lowrance. David's mother Susan died when he was 3 years old. No other information is known about his childhood.

David was a farmer near Purdy and near his father Jacob. During the Civil War, the Battle of Shiloh was fought only a few miles from his family home during which time he was apparently displaced from his home. Later David was a scout in the Army, but was not enlisted and was not on the records during a 14 month period.

Following the war David Marion married Finetti Jane Keeton on December 15, 1869. Their first son John Francis was born on September 18, 1870. In 1871 the family went by wagon to Kerr County, Texas and settled at Center Point. David did carpentery work and also raised and raced horses.

Four more sons were born while living at Kerrville, Texas: Albert Lawson, Henry Milton, George Washington, and Jacob David. October 25, 1879 just three days after Jacob was born their mother Finetti Jane Lowrance died leaving behind 5 young sons. Finetti is buried in Starkey Cemetery, Kerrville, Texas.

In 1882 David's father Jacob Lowrance died and David returned to Tennessee taking his children and several horses. In Tennessee he met Isabelle Tedford. They were married on March 7, 1885. After several years they moved back to Kerrville, Texas. In 1900 David Marion moved to Oklahoma Indian Territory along with his 5 sons and there he filed a land claim. He built a home before Christmas 1900 and farmed until his death. David Marion died March 23, 1914 and is buried at Spring Creek Cemetery, Greer County, Oklahoma next to Isabelle.
