He was a member of Wilkesboro Baptist Church, where he sang in the church choir.
Mr. Benfield served in US Air Force for nine years.
He was the long term owner of Wilkesboro Cleaners.
Mr. Benfield was an avid golfer and a long time member of Seniors on Stage.
He was a member of the Gideons International.
Mr. Benfield was a devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and a truly noble man.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Benfield was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Dee Benfield; three brothers, Doyle Benfield, Joe Benfield, and Harvey Benfield; three sisters, Ruey Fox, Cleo Dagenhart, and Helen Byers.
