She was born near Varna in rural Marshall County on Sept. 17, 1913, the first of five children of David and Bertha (Hultgren) Anderson.
She attended rural schools in Marshall County and high school at Magnolia, where she met her future husband, Lowell T. McKirgan. They were married on Aug. 10, 1935, in Varna. Mr. McKirgan died in 1981.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty, in 1954; her parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Surviving are two sons, Lowell E. "Bud" (and Becky) McKirgan of LaFayette and John (and Linda) McKirgan of Waggoner.
Mrs. McKirgan was honored in 2003 as the Stark County Old Settlers Association Badge Honoree.
Earlier, the Illinois General Assembly recognized her long tenure as the Goshen Township Clerk. Mrs. McKirgan was appointed to the position in 1943, when her husband was drafted into the Army. She served more than 53 years. During many of those years, she also served as LaFayette Village Clerk
She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the LaFayette Legion Auxiliary.
Aina was blessed with a love for people coupled with an incredible memory for details of conversations and family connections going back many years. She enjoyed music of all kinds and played the organ and piano by ear. During this last year of her life, she shared morning devotionals with her son, Bud, and thanked the Lord daily for many blessings placed in her life.
She suffered a broken hip and was diagnosed with cancer in 2001. Five years later she was declared a cancer survivor.
Mrs. McKirgan was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Galva, where she had served several terms on the church council.
Burial will be in the LaFayette Cemetery.
