Thomas SPILMAN (1777-1838), son of William and Mary (BROWN) SPILMAN, was born, 22 March 1777, in Culpeper Co., Virginia.

Thomas SPILMAN (1777-1838), son of William and Mary (BROWN) SPILMAN, married 19 November 1798 in Mercer Co., Kentucky, to Nancy BRENTON (1777-1822), daughter of James and Mary (WOODFIELD) BRENTON. Bondsman was James BRENTON. The brides mother, Mary BRENTON stated that Nancy is 21 and a resident of Mercer County. A witness was Robert BRENTON. Thomas and Nancy (BRENTON) SPILMAN had children: Mary "Polly" SPILMAN married 1820 John JOHNSON; Harvey SPILMAN (1807-1887) m. 1830 Mary MASON; Thomas B. His widowed mother, Mary SPILMAN is listed with 1 male under 10, 2 males 10-16, 3 males 16-26, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-16, and 1 female over 45.

A bond dated 9 August 1813, in the matter of the estate of William SPILMAN, was signed by Thomas SPILMAN, Sebia HOLT, and John CLINE. Thomas SPILMAN was named Executor of the will of William SPILMAN. - Gallatin Co., Kentucky Will Book A, page 244.

On 11 February 1820, Thomas SPILLMAN was named one of the ten trustees of the Corn Creek Academy in Gallatin County (now Trimble County), Kentucky. This school was located on the old Bedford-Milton Turnpike near the Corn Creek Baptist Church on land originally donated by Drakeford GRAY. Corn Creek was the oldest school in what is now Trimble County, having been in continued use for 126 years before being combined with Milton and Bedford Consolidated Schools in July of 1938. - Trimble County Historical Society, TRIMBLE COUNTY HERITAGE (1988), pp.10,81.

Thomas SPILMAN (1777-1838) died 25 Jan. 1838 at Trimble County, Kentucky. He is buried at Mount Tabor Methodist Church yard. The legend on his gravestone reads, "In memory of Thomas SPILMAN who was born in Culpeper County, Virginia March 22, 1777, and departed this life January 25, 1838. Wife, Nancy, born Oct. 8, 1777; d. Nov. 27, 1822." - Information from Nanon L. CARR of Chula Vista, Calif. (1975), a descendant of William and Mary (BROWN) SPILMAN through their son Ezekiel. Also copied by Joseph E. Wiley of Madison, Indiana. (Note: This information was verified by William L. DeCOURSEY of Minneapolis, Minnesota in the summer of 1978, while on a trip to attend the NSSAR Convention at Louisville, Kentucky.)
