Charles SPILMAN, son of William and Mary (BROWN) SPILMAN, enlisted on 11 Aug 1808 at Port William, Gallatin Co., KY under Capt. Elijah CRAIG for the period of five years, and was discharged at Fort Hampton on 11 Aug. 1813. He served in this tour as a private in the company commanded by Capt. James McDONALD in the U.S. Rifle Regiment commanded by Col. George W. SEVIER. A description list of McDONALD's company on 11 August 1813 shows Charles SPILMAN, age 21 years, 5 foot 11 inches tall, born Culpeper Co., Virginia, Black eyes, Black Hair, Brown Complexion. Charles SPILMAN re-enlisted on 10 Nov. 1814 at Port William, Gallatin Co., Kentucky in Capt. Ziba HOLT's company of the 13th Regiment Kentucky Detached Militia. He was promoted to Corporal on 18 Feb. 1815, and was discharged at Port William on 10 July 1815. On 21 December 1850, Charles SPILMAN, then aged sixty-four years, of Trimble Co., Kentucky applied for a pension on his service during the War of 1812.
