The photo that I added is from a family group photo taken in 1897. Minnie that is included in the group photo died in 1898. I believe this photo was taken the same time as the one I added to his mother Betsy Welch-Straw's memorial. I believe the rest of the families came to Iowa to celebrate Enoch and Betsy's anniversary and photos taken. Granted this is my opinion only.

William Jackson Straw known as the General in the 1860 Hustisford, Dodge Co., Wisconsin census. Was the son of Enoch Straw and Betsy Welch. William was also called Jackson and Jack Straw.

William married Elizabeth Jane Kettner on 1-8-1874 In Jasper County, Iowa by Minister J.N. Bushy.
When they married Elizabeth had 2 children; Lyman Owen Barner/King 1868 and Minnie E King 1871. William and Elizabeth had 9 children: Lillie May 1874, Mary Elizabeth 1875, Ida Frances 1878,John Greenleaf Fairfield 1880, William, Jr, 1882,James Franklin 1884,Andrew Jackson 1886, Clara Bell 1889 and Mabel Florence 1891. All born in Iowa. Minnie and Lyman are listed on Elizabeth's memorial. Have no idea why FAG didn't list them as half siblings. They all grown up together.

William and his family left Story County, Iowa after 1895 and moved to near Wishart, Polk Co., Missouri by 1900, then to Coffeyville, Kansas by 1910. They settled in Washington County, Arkansas before 1912. Their home and farm is now part of Devil's Den State Park.

William and Elizabeth's son William Jr. born April 26, 1882 Logan, Marshall Co. Iowa. Died May 5, 1882 same place. Family Bible records his age as 9 days old when he died..

William and Elizabeth's son James Franklin died in Chicago, Illinois between 1966 and 1970. He went by the name Jim Frank prior to the time.
My uncle Walter Straw visited James in Chicago every few years, the last trip in the late 1960's Walter was informed that James had died and the State had buried him in a pauper's grave. His employer had no idea where buried, what death date or what name was used for his death certificate.
I couldn't locate one for James Straw in official records nor the person I hired to read Chicago papers for death notices for any man that fit James's where abouts between 1966 and 1970.
James married Effie O. Armstrong on June 11, 1907 Pratt, Pratt Co., Kansas. They had one son Merle J. Straw on Aug. 8, 1907 Pratt, Ks. Merle died July 26, 1977 Florida. A life long Navy man he was cremated and ashes buried a sea.
James moved his family to New York and became a bootlegger, where he came to know Al Capone. James was soon divorced and Effie remarried Charles McAllester by 1920 in NY. When Capone left NY, James went with him to Chicago. James still a bootlegger ran booze as far as to Canada. Locally he worked for Walgreens as a delivery man and delivered booze for Capone concealed in the Walgreen delivery truck. Told by James himself.
No census records can be located for James Franklin Straw after his marriage due to the different names he used over his life time.

When James's son Merle died in 1977 the Court hired a genealogical firm to locate his next to kin. They contacted my Mother, my Aunts and Uncles to notify them of his passing and to disburse his estate. In the documents we learned that both James and Effie had pass away. And that Effie's last known husband was Hugh B. Smith. No burial places have been located for them. Charles McAllester died in NY and is buried there.
William and Elizabeth were my great grandparents. I am a descendant of their son Andrew Jackson Straw
