Her first name was actually Elizabeth, called Betsy as most Elizabeth's were. She was the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth Welch of Parsonsfield, York Co, Maine.

The photo was taken 1887. The five generation of Straw family mothers and daughters.

Elizabeth Charlotte Bickford-Hammond 1847, Emma Hammond-Holsted-Moulette 1868.
I believe this photo was taken the same time of Betsy's son William Jackson Straw group family photo and where taken in 1887. I also believe that the rest of the family came together to celebrate Enoch and Betsy's 65th anniversary in Nevada, Story Co. Iowa. There is most likely a photo of Enoch and Betsy out there somewhere. These were the only two photo's I had.

Obit ran Friday, Dec 30. 1887 in the Story County Watchman. page 3 Col 4 midway down page.

OBIT;
" Mrs Enoch Straw died at the residence of her son the first of the week. Aged about 80 years. Only a few weeks ago we chronicled the death of her husband and now she follows him to that bourn at a ripe old age. We then gave a resume of their lives only now add that she was one of those whom it was a pleasure to have known and that her many friends will mourn her loss most sincerely."

The first of the week would have Monday December 26, 1887. The son mentioned would have been William Jackson Straw. They were living with him as well was their son John.

Please take the time to check out Enoch Straw's memorial. I have added a lot of information about Betsy's family history to his memorial.

Enoch and Betsy have no headstones. They weren't found in the 1930's when the WPA canvased the Story County Cemeteries cataloging headstones in each cemetery.

Enoch and Betsy Welch-Straw are my great great grandparents. I descend from their son William. And from his son Andrew Jackson Straw. William's daughter Clara looked so much like Betsy. The Straw family members were small in stature. I have connected all their children's memorials except for Franklin, Enoch Jr. and Enoch Lorenzo . I have not found their burial places. I believe both son's named Enoch died as infants.
Son Franklin disappeared from records after 1850 with the name of Franklin. I believe Franklin's first name was Charles and that Enoch's daughter Matilda named her first born son Charles Franklin after her brother.
Enoch's son John served in the Civil War and was shot in the right leg. I have his Civil War Photo, plus a later photo. I will be adding them to his memorial.

I have the photo I attached to this memorial. Betsy Welch-Straw born 1806 is on the left side sitting in a chair. Her daughter Elizabeth Ann Straw-Bickford born 1825 is on the right side sitting. Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth Charlott Bickford-Hammond born 1847 is standing behind Betsy. Elizabeth C. Hammond's daughter Emma Hammond-Holsted born 1868 is standing behind Elizabeth Straw-Bickford. And the baby girl is Cora Holsted born 1886.

You will find on Ancestry.com Enoch and Betsy's family containing 14 children. They only had 11 and I posted them on Enoch's memorial. On Ancestry they have son Franklin b 1831 died 1832 , he was alive in records in 1850 with them., They have son Enoch born 1884 died 1963, my g g grandmother Betsy was in her 80's in 1884. They have a son recorded as Charles 1828 unknown birth or death and a daughter named Mattie 1848 which would of been a mistake for Matilda. They have a son listed as Jake unknown birth or death. My g grandfather William Jackson was some time called Jack or Jackson.
