A native of Southampton County, he was a son of the late Philmore and Mrs. Jane Ridley and husband of Mrs. Mattie Ridley.
He was retired from the City of Portsmouth after eight years and was a member of Union Holiness Church 2.
Besides his widow, surviving are eight sons, Willie Ridley, Garfield Ridley, Irvin Ridley, Ernest Ridley, Predell Ridley, Herbert Ridley, Johnnie Ridley, and Linwood Ridley of Portsmouth; two daughters, Mrs. Queen Dixon of Portsmouth and Mrs. Mattie Hart of Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Sable Thomas and Mrs. Almetha Scott of Franklin; a brother, the Rev. Winfield Ridley of Portsmouth; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Union Holiness Church 2 by Bishop Paul Howard. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park with Fisher Funeral Home in charge.
