Queen Esther Dixon, 78, of the 1800 block of Richmond Ave., died April 28, 2003 at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation for Chesapeake. Born in Southampton County, she was a member of Holy Trinity Church No. 1, Portsmouth, and a member of the Senior Choir and Loyal Helpers Ministry.

Survivors include her husband, James W. Dixon Sr. of Portsmouth; seven daughters, Mary E. Ellis (Allen), Gloria J. Ingram all of Portsmouth, Ernestine "Tina" Dixon-Bartlett (Richard) of Vallejo, Calif., Shera Ann Parker of Washington, D.C., Brenda Lee (Ernest) of Dacula, Ga., Linda Ford of Columbus, Ga., and Cynthia Madkins of Chesapeake; a son, James W. Dixon Jr. of Florence, S.C.; a sister, Mattie Hart (Clarence) of Franklin, Va.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Coppedge, eight brothers and her parents, Mattie F. Ridley and Ella Clayton Ridley.

A funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Holy Trinity Church No. 1, Portsmouth, by Elder Bobby Dunn and Elder Larry R. Hailes. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Friday.
