Betty was born on the Cherry family farm in Oswego, daughter of Reuben Parkhurst and Etta Bushnell. She graduated from West Aurora High School in 1935, married Howard Lange in 1937, and had 5 children.

She worked for years at the Edgewater Restaurant in Montgomery owned by her sister Gina, making the best pies! She even owned her own restaurant on Route 47 in Sugar Grove for a few years then worked at the Toll Gate Inn in North Aurora, making all the salads for their wonderful salad bar. She loved to crochet and made the most gorgeous baby blankets, sweaters and booties and hats and scarves. She even fixed a broken doll for me. She was like a second mother.

She and her sister Anita were the ones who planned the Parkhurst family reunion each year. She tried to keep the family together and close. After she retired she dreamed of moving to the Ozarks, she loved the water... but sadly she developed cancer and passed away before she could accomplish her dream. Her home was welcoming to everyone. She never locked her front door, so you could just walk right in and she would probably be either cooking, baking, or sitting at her kitchen table. I can remember her always saying as we were leaving "come see me again".

She was the most loving, generous and accepting person, she always had a kind word to say to everyone. And she never played favorites, she considered everyone in her family equal, whether you were her daughter, her son, her grandchild, her great grandchild, adopted or natural, her niece, her brother-in-law, she loved us all.
