Bev was the first of five children born to Howard and Elizabeth (Parkhurst) Lange. After graduating from East Aurora High School in 1957, she worked for a few years at the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad in Chicago with her two aunts. In 1957 she married her first husband Wayne Schwebke. The marriage was short lived and in 1964 she married James Young, they had 3 children and two stepsons. After she and Jim divorced she moved the family to Kissimmee, Florida. She moved back to Aurora in 1998 to live with an elderly aunt. After her aunt passed away in 2004 she moved back to Florida and then to Utah to be near her children.

She loved singing to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, A Bushel and A Peck from the musical Guys and Dolls: " I love you, a bushel and a peck, a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap, a barrel and a heap and I'm talking in my sleep about you, about you! Cause I love you a bushel and a peck, you bet your pretty neck, I do. A doodle oodle, ooh doo. A doodle oodle, oodle, ooh doo".
