Etta Bushnell was one of six daughters born to James and Elizabeth (Burgess) Bushnell, July 22, 1880 in Lisbon, IL. She married Reuben Pitcher Parkhurst at her grandparents home in Watervliet, MI on April 11, 1906. She was a dressmaker and made lovely quilts and doilies and also loved to entertain: "On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Parkhurst entertained sixteen friends. Games were played and a delicious supper was served." Kendall County Record, 14 Apr 1909.
Family gatherings were extremely important to the Bushnell's: "Sisters Hold Their Fiftieth Yule Reunion...The family gatherings on Christmas Day included six sisters, who have spent Christmas day together for the past fifty years. The gathering was at the home of Miss Nellie Bushnell and Miss Ruby Bushnell in Grand Avenue and included their four sisters and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Alexis Walstrom and family and Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Coop and family of Minooka, Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Parkhurst and family of Aurora, and Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Thompson and family of Chicago." 1930, The Aurora Beacon News.
After her husband passed away she lived with her daughter Virginia and her husband Richard, caring for their daughter until she passed away June 23, 1949 (when they arrived home from work, they would find baby and grandmother sound asleep in their favorite rocking chair). Etta's body was laid to rest in Spring Lake Cemetery, her soul is alive in the hearts of her loved ones who remember her with great love.
