Anita Mae Parkhurst was born on the Cherry family farm in Oswego, IL, her father farmed. She graduated from West Aurora High School 1939. She was working as a waitress in a cafeteria in 1940 and was living with her parents and her sister Virginia. In the mid to late 1940's she started working for the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad in Chicago where she worked until retiring in 1980. She married George Popp on October 18, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Aurora, IL. Her matron of honor was her sister Virginia (Parkhurst) Moran. Their reception was held at the Georgian Room also in Aurora. She and George had no children and resided first at 529 Phoenix Court in Aurora and later at 106 Riverside Drive in Mongomery, IL. George died of a heart attack in 1961. She was very active with a Women's organization and enjoyed traveling. After retiring from the railroad in 1980, she moved to Leisure Hills, Arkansas. She lived there for a number of years then returned to Montgomery, IL. where she resided with her neice Beverly Lange Young until her death in 2004.
