Catherine is the great-granddaughter of Joseph Holman, who played a significant role in early Indiana state politics. Joseph Holman's father, George Holman was an early settler to Wayne county, Indiana having migrated from Kent, Maryland.

On October 14, 1909, Catherine married Alfred Miller, the son of Mathias Miller and Sarah Catherine "Kate" Longman.
Alfred and his twin, Albert were the 6th and 7th of fourteen children.
