Jessie “Virginia” Butler Fonzo, 91 of Liberty passed away peacefully on Friday, June 2, 2017 at The Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro, NC. She was the ninth child of eleven siblings born on August 16, 1925 in Randolph County. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Please join the family in celebrating Virginia's 91 years of vibrant, loving and benevolent life. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 5, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Loflin Funeral Home, Liberty, NC. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 6, at 2:00 PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 7103 Sandy Creek Church Road, Staley, NC with Rev. Jimmy Austin and Jimmy Hill officiating. At other times the family will be at her home at 520 Edgewood Drive, Liberty, NC 27298.

Virginia had a passion for sewing - her specialty was making quilts. She loved cooking and baking. She loved making her favorite Italian baked ziti and sharing it with her friends and family. Some of her favorite desserts were: butter cookies, Pizzelle-Italian waffle cookies (of course she liked lemon and vanilla, but Carl loved Anise flavored!). Frequently, she made Carl's favorite "Impossible Pie and Apple Crisp". She enjoyed staying home and looking after her four granddaughters as they were growing up. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Boyd and Dora Kivett Butler, her sisters, Vallie Ray, Ruth Land, Christine Shears, Ella Lee Aiello, Lucy Montclair, Frances McKinney, Margaret Cheek, and brothers, George, E.D. and Frank Butler. Virginia is survived by her husband of 65 years, Carl Fonzo and daughters, Doreen Fonzo of Charleston, SC, Judy Bianco (Jerry) of Liberty, and Francine Fonzo of Concord, NC, four granddaughters, Ashlee Birkler and Lindsay Stewart (Corey) of Spring Hill, FL, Jenna Bruscino (Daniel) and Leah Bianco of Liberty, four great-grandsons, Tyler Hughes, Brandon Stewart, Lorenzo and Luca Bruscino, sisters-in-law, Ann Butler of Julian and Ruth Butler of Burlington and brother-in-law, Howard Cheek of Liberty. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Please take a moment to remember Virginia’s smile and kind spirit during her time with you. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 7103 Sandy Creek Church Road, Staley, NC 27355 or Hospice of Randolph County, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204.
