Austin M. Burton, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, successfully completed his earthly probation, October 7, 1991.
He was born December 3, 1907, to Austin G. and Leonora McMillan Burton, in Salt Lake County. He married Clara Mayhew, August 5, 1932, in Duchesne; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was raised in Talmage where his parents were some of the first homesteaders. He graduated from Granite High School and served a mission to the Southern States. He was a High Priest in the Bennion 19th Ward of the LDS Church. He served faithfully and dedicately his entire life in numerous church callings, bishoprics, ward clerk, high coucil, Sunday School, and was a temple worker for seven years.
He was Water Commissioner and County Commissioner in Duschene. While living there, he worked as a farmer, school teacher and school bus driver. He moved to Salt Lake in 1955 and was a long time resident of Bennion, retiring from the State Road Commission in 1972.
Survived by his wife, Bennion; his children,
Jenean Evans, Blanding; Vada Huber, Katy, Texas; Millan Burton, West Jordan; Austin Burton, South Jordan; Ralph Burton, West Jordan; Debra Mackay, Draper; Clyde Burton, Clearfield; 30 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; brother and three sisters, Paul Burton, Spanish Fork;
Janet Cowan, Duchesne; Anna Kennison, Payson; Virginia Lawson, Vernal. Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Leon, Ellis and
Lawrence, and a grandson, Lance Burton.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 12, 1 p.m., Bennion 19th Ward House, 6250 South 2200 West. Friends may call at Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, Friday 6-8 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to services.
He was dedicated to his wife and children. He was greatly loved by all who knew him, and he will be missed by them all.
