He was born January 5, 1932 to Charles Curtis and Nora Rosetta (Stancer) Dewater in Witchita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. Leland served in the Army and the Marines.
He later met the woman of his dreams and fell head over heels in love with Eleanora E. (Nava) DeWater only 24 hours after they met, they were married October 5, 1957 in Los Angeles, Calif., and they were married for 53 years, she passed away July 27, 2010.
He had four children Julita Dewater Domebo (Angelo) of Lapwai, ID., Lelanda Dewater Halverson (Eddie) of Crescent City, CA., Simon R. Dewater of Deer Park, WA., and Lorita Dewater Jones (Willie). They adopted a grandson Jeffery Dewater and two foster children Esther Dewater and Leland L. Dewater. They had 13 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. They raised 53 foster children and loved them all very much.
Leland was a heavy equipment operator, and a mill worker, worked for Boeing, Lasky and Don Davidson. He was a jack of all trades. He was a kind, gentle, loving man, he was quiet until you really knew him. He traveled with his family throughout the US and Canada for camp meeting revivals and church services. He would adjust the sound system for the family while they sang and they felt he was the best sound man around and made them sound their best.
Leland attended the Salvation Inn for all Nations in earlier years. He was taught and pastored by the late John L. Vaughns. He was preceded in death by his wife and daughter Lorita Jones. Visitation will be Monday 1-5PM at Heritage and a Funeral Service will be at 11:00AM Tuesday October 16, 2012 at Heritage Chapel.
