"And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend... who can say if I've been changed for the better, but because I knew you, I have been changed for good."

I owe so much to this wonderful woman, who cared nothing of race, religion, sexual orientation or any of the unimportant things that draw people apart. She cared only about being honest, caring and kind. She loved her family, and nothing made her happier than having everyone together, enjoying one another and laughing as much as possible. She was no pushover, and she would not hesitate to tell someone if she thought he was acting unfairly or stupidly. One such encounter with her was a turning point in my own life, and I thank her every day for it.

We grandkids called her Grannie, and her siblings called her Snookie. When playing Canasta with her, I called her Sneaky Pete - she had a great poker face, and I refused to play poker with her because of it. She loved yard work and grew the most beautiful flowers. It was not uncommon for people to stop by her house to admire her yard and ask for tips on gardening. She also enjoyed playing Jeopardy! along with the television, watching movies, cooking for family events, reading, sewing - she taught me to sew and once threatened me with a ticket for running her machine "over the speed limit" - and crafts. Though it became difficult to get her out on the river in her later years, her favourite activity for a long time was fishing on the banks of the Colorado or Llano Rivers.

Grannie passed away peacefully 22 November 2006 after a battle with circulatory disease. She will always be greatly missed by all those who knew her. She was the light of our lives. I miss her hugs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, JR Judd; her parents, Hatton Marshall Moore, Sr., and Edna Mae Hanna Moore; a brother, Bobbie Joe Moore; and a granddaughter, Denise Elynn Judd.

In the years since her death, we have also said goodbye to her siblings Nora Mae Moore Smith, Hatton Marshall Moore, Jr. and Billy Ray Moore. She was also a proud big sister to Darrell Alford (born 1935) and Cal Wayne (born 1941).

Grannie was the proud mother of four sons - Dennis (Arlene); Darrell (Nell); Billy (Jesse); and Jimmy (Susie). She adored her seven grandchildren: Penny, Lance (Donna), Jim (Tracey), Melissa (Stuart), Jeremy, Jayci and Tyler; as well as great-grandchildren Cody, Tyler, Marshall, Joel, Kelsey and Kyle. Jim and Tracey added great-granddaughter Grayce Elizabeth in 2012, and Cody is the proud father of Grannie's great-great-grandson, Levi.
