His father, Isom Theodore Judd, wanted JR to be a junior. He simply wrote Jr on the birth certificate, so his son was known simply as JR. The nickname Jiggs came along later - I assume from one of his 16 siblings. Jiggs, or PawPaw, was a World War II veteran who worked for many years as a carpenter and greyhound breeder, the latter a venture he took on with his son Darrell. He served as president of the Texas Greyhound Association and was a member of the National Greyhound Association. He died shortly before his 74th birthday from complications of Type I Diabetes and Lupus.
