-----------------------
Elizabeth Rogers McAvoy was born on Wolfe Island, Ontario Canada. She was the last of 12 children along with her twin sister Sarah. They were born to Irish immigrants that came to Wolfe Island in the 1830s. She grew up and married an island neighbor man, John McAvoy. As jobs were scarce on the island, John became a mariner on the Great Lakes and later a ship captain and they left the island.
In the course of John's career, they moved to Kingston, Ontario, Muskegon, Michigan and they finally settled in Chicago, Illinois for job opportunities. They had six children.
Elizabeth is buried with her husband at Mt. Carmel. Buried next to John and Elizabeth's graves is Elizabeth's twin sister Sarah Rogers Langan and her husband.
NOTE: Elizabeth's maiden name was spelled Rogers or Rodgers depending on the inclinations of the family member. I have seen it spelled both ways.
