Ann was born in Ireland in 1833. She immigrated to Canada before she was five on a ship that was used to transport lumber. She was one of 12 children.

She grew up on Wolfe Island and married John McCormick on Feb 4, 1856. They had nine children who were all born at Wolfe Island, Ontario, Canada. Their names were:

Mary Elizabeth McCormick 1856
John McCormick 1859
James McCormick 1861
Thomas McCormick 1863
Emelia McCormick 1867
Frederick McCormick 1869
Patrick McCormick 1869
George Lawrence McCormick 1871
Clara McCormick 1874

Wolfe Island was once a prosperous island involved in the lumber trade. When the island's forests were depleted, many islanders had to look elsewhere for jobs. Other Wolfe Islanders had moved to Muskegon, so the McCormicks came too.
