Ex-Patrolman John Rogers passed away about 7:50 o'clock last evening at the family residence, 359 Greenwood avenue, after a long period of suffering. His malady was cancer of the stomach.
The confirmation of the appointment of Patrolman Rogers was not made for several years after he was placed on the force in June, 1886, for the reason it was said that he was over the age limit when he was appointed. Just before the commision of which Gen. J. E. Pittman was president went out of office, John Rogers was duly confirmed. He was retired on June 9, 1901. Mr. Rogers is survived by a widow and four children, Joseph M., Harry T., Frank E, and Lillian R. Rogers. He was born on Wolf's Island, Ont., and before coming to Detroit in 1880, he was engaged in the butcher business in St. Catherines, Ont. The funeral will be held from SS Peter and Paul's cathedral, Adelaid street, Thursday at 9 a.m.
NOTE: John was originally buried at Mt. Elliott on 7/10/1902. He was moved to Mt. Olivet on 7/24/1902. His place of death was his home on 359 Greenwood in Detroit--he was 56 years old.

This sandstone marker is almost stripped of any words. The only thing that was visible was a very faint "Rogers" near the base.
