Orion Leon Saunders was the son of Thomas R. Saunders and his wife, Daisy Bruce. He was born in what was then Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach).

Orion Leon Saunders, 82, of the 1800 block of Pleasant Ridge Road, a retired heavy equipment operator, died Aug. 16, 1994, in Chesapeake.
Mr. Saunders was born in Princess Anne County and was a Protestant. He was retired from the City of Norfolk after 40 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a staff sergeant, and was awarded the Bronze Star medal for meritorious service in combat.
Survivors include two sisters, Laura E. Morris of Virginia Beach and Virginia Trueblood of Chesapeake; a brother, Clyde Preston Saunders of Virginia Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Joseph E. Brewer. Friends may join the family at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today and at the residence, 1877 Pleasant Ridge Road, at other times. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. "
