"Dansville - John Barber, a young man 25 years old died in a hospital in Rochester on Sunday from an accident. He attemped to climb on a freight train near Mertensia and fell under the train and one leg was cut off. He was attended to promptly and taken to the hospital where he shortly died from loss of blood. The remains were brought here on Tuesday and short funeral service was held at the home of William Campbell on Cottage Street, Rev. S.H. Alling officiating, the bearers being relatives of the deceased. The young man was the only son of John Barber who was brought from Martensia to Mr. Campbell's and buried just a year ago Tuesday. The family were relatives of the Barbers living in this vicinity and for some time they lived on a farm in the town of Mt. Morris. Later they moved to Mertnesia where the deceased son was engaged in farming. He leaves a mother and three sisters, Mrs. William Pelton, Miss Minnie Barber and Miss Anna Barber."
