Norbert H. Markway, a retired construction executive in St. Louis, died Friday (Feb. 27, 1998) at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur of complications from pneumonia. He was 80 and lived in Town and Country.

From 1952 to 1991, Mr. Markway was the owner and president of Markway Construction Co., a remodeling and restoration business in Maplewood. His company did work for many prominent St. Louisans, including the Busch and Griesedieck families, Hale Irwin and Bob Costas. He retired in 1991. Three of his sons now run the company.

Born and reared on a farm in Wardsville, Mo., Mr. Markway played minor league baseball in Jefferson City before he came to St. Louis in the early 1940s. He worked for a construction company, then served in the Construction Battalions of the Navy in World War II.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bopp Chapel, 10610 Manchester Road, Kirkwood. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Clements Catholic Church, 1510 Bopp Road, Des Peres. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery.

Among the survivors are two daughters, Kathleen Weber of Carthage, Mo. and Patrice Holt of Groton, Mass.; four sons, Bert Markway of South County, Mickey Markway of Kirkwood, Jeff Markway of West County and Philip Markway of Carroll, Iowa; a sister, Mary Duckworth of Wardsville; four brothers, Marcellus Markway, Louis Markway and Maurice Markway, all of Wardsville, and Jerome Markway of St. Ann; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
