ELIJAH FOSTER MILLER DEAD

Elijah Foster Miller was born July 12, 1848 and departed this life January 6, 1932 at the age of eighty-three years, five months and twenty- five days.

His father died when he was a small boy and then he and his brothers had to work to care for their mother and three sisters.

He enlisted in the Civil War at the age of fourteen, at Brandenburg and was mustered out for service at Mt. Sterling. He was a Private of Captain Denton Company C, Twelfth Regiment of Kentucky Cavalry, He served three years in the service and took part in many battles. He was with Sherman when he marched to the sea and was in the front with Sherman during the final charge at Winchester. He took part in the battles in the south and often wished he could visit those places again, after he grew old. He was discharged from service August 23, 1865 at Louisville, Ky.

He came home and soon was married to Miss Margaret Bland, to this union thirteen children were born, four of whom survive, Mrs. Ellen Lawson, Mrs. Etta Pack, Mrs. Mollie Board, all of Brandenburg and George Miller of Valley Station, Ky. They lived a long and happy life until 22 years ago when his wife died.

Then he was married to Miss Rosa Bishoff of Brandenburg, to this union four children were born, all of whom survive; Elsie, Katy, William and Maggie. After his marriage to Miss Bishoff, he joined the Methodist Episcopal Church near Weldon and lived a Christian life until death struck him. He had been in failing health for several years but....... illegible ..... He is survived by his wife, eight children, thirty-three grandchildren and forty-three great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist Church, Weldon, January 7 at 2:30 by the pastor, Rev. John Sparks, Rock Haven. During the service at the grave, soldiers from Camp Knox took charge, firing a salute over the grave and giving the tattoo for Onward March. There were many beautiful floral designs and a flag placed on the grave.
