BLUEFIELD, Va. — Davis Durant Harmon, 102, died peacefully Feb. 12, 2009 at Westwood Health Care Center, Bluefield, Va. He was born September 27, 1906 in Stuart, IT (Indian Territory) which later became Oklahoma. He was the oldest of eight boys born to Susie and Samuel Harmon. He married Annie Pool in 1934. They had four children, Samuel, Phil, Joe, and Alice. They resided in Bowlegs, Okla. until after World War II. Davis worked on the oil pipelines as a pipefitter (an industry necessary for the war effort), both in Oklahoma and the Mojave desert while five of his brothers served on active military duty. The family moved to Hagerville, Ark. after the war and operated a general store there. Davis then went to work for Piedmont Natural Gas Company in Charlotte, N.C. until his retirement in 1971. He was recognized for never missing a scheduled day of work in 40 years. Davis and Annie retired to a small farm in Buena Vista, Tenn. where they happily entertained the grandchildren, friends and family. Davis enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty with family and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Annie; one son, Phil; and all seven of his brothers, Harold, Arvis, Gerald, Elton, Hubert, Olan, and Loyd (L.G.). He is survived by his sons, Samuel Harmon of Johnson City, Tenn., Joe Harmon of Ridgeway, S.C.; and his daughter, Alice Bageant of Bluefield, Va. He had ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. It was Davis’s wish to be cremated
