NORFOLK - John Arthur Bartlett, 81, went to be with the Lord and his wife Monday, November 13, 2006. He was the son of the late Letcher and Gillie Bartlett. John was born in Washington, D.C., June 4, 1925. He was also predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Irene Bartlett; three sisters, Carolyn Quiner, Eleanor Smith and Ethel Austin.

John and his wife Irene were members of Norview Baptist Church for many years where he served as a deacon. He was also a proud member of Gideons International. He was a World War II United States veteran. He was the founder and co-owner of Bartlett and White Carpet Service.

He leaves behind three loving children, Keith Bartlett and wife Elizabeth of Virginia Beach, Jim Bartlett and wife Brenda of Virginia Beach, and Sheila Cole and husband Dennis of Chesapeake; one sister, Dorothy Davis of Virginia Beach; six grandchildren, Kristy Raad, Wendy Witte, Christopher Bartlett, Kevin Bartlett, Denise Cox and Beverly Bartlett; three great-grandchildren, Patrick Manges, Tyler Herring and Ethan Witte; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Family received friends Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, located at 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Norview Baptist Church, 1127 Norview Ave., Norfolk, VA 23513 or Gideons International P.O. Box 61, Portsmouth VA 23705.
