Kate Bouts was born on 13 September 1852 in Greenwich and baptized on 17 September 1856 at St Peter, Hackney, the daughter of William Bouts and Louisa Holmes. Her parents both died in 1861 and she went to live with her maiden aunt Kate Bouts who was a teacher in Blandford Forum. She stayed on and became a pupil teacher by 1871. On 2 January 1877 she married Henry George Fooks in Blandford Forum. They lived in Loders and had four children:

Her husband Henry died in 1918. Kate died on 25 May 1929 and was buried on 28 May 1929, age 76
