Arie Fordyce services Thursday

Arie Coy Fordyce, 109 East County Line Road, Edinburg, died at her home on Monday at the age of 84.

She was born in Bartholomew County on August 3, 1892, and was the daughter of John Wesley and Hannah Melissa (Millens [Milnes]) Coy.

She was married on December 8, 1910, to Rowland G. Fordyce who preceded her in death in 1965.

Mrs. Fordyce was a member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church. She was in charge of the Cradle Roll department of the church for 35 years.

She and her husband owned and operated a small grocery in Edinburg from 1910 to 1943.

Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Permelia Straughn, Edinburg, and Mrs. Fata May Martines, Downey, Cal.; sisters, Mrs. Harry Campbell, Barnesboro, Pa., Mrs. Herman Campbell, Brookville, Pa., and Mrs. Ellis McKee, Oceanside, Cal., and a brother, Emerson Coy of Martinsville. She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Services will be held on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the Edinburg United Methodist Church with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Bozell will conduct the services. Friends may call at the Eskew Funeral Home after 2 p.m. today.

FORDYCE RITES

Mrs. Arie Fordyce, 109 East County Line Street, widow of Rowland Fordyce, was found lying in the snow at about 7 p.m. after her granddaughter, Penny Tegarden, had taken her evening meal to her and she could not be found.

Both the Edinburg police and rescue unit were called and found Mrs. Fordyce near the back of the house. She was taken to the Bartholomew County Hospital but was dead upon arrival.

She and her husband had operated the Fordyce Grocery Store on the county line from 1910 to 1943, which had once been operated by Mr. Fordyce's father, W. W. Fordyce.

Mrs. Fordyce was born Aug. 3, 1892, in Bartholomew County, the daughter of John Wesley Coy and Hanna Melissa Milnes Coy. She married Mr. Fordyce Dec. 8, 1910 and he died Oct. 27, 1965. He had served for many years as a trustee of the Bartholomew County Hospital.

Mrs. Fordyce was an active member of the Edinburg United Methodist Church, its Woman's Society of Christian Service, and of the Gleaner's society. She also was a member of the Earnest Workers Sunday School class.

Funeral services will be held at the Edinburg United Methodist Church Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery. Calling hours will be at Eskew Funeral Home after 2:00 today.

Surviving are two daughters, Parmelia Straughn of Edinburg and Fata Mae Martines of Downey, California; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Harry Campbell of Barnesboro, Pa., Mrs Herman Campbell of Brookville, Pa., and Mrs. Ellis McKee of Oceanside, Calif; one brother, Emerson Coy of Martinsville. Ten brothers and sisters preceded in death.
