Edinburg Woman Ill Past Two Weeks – Rites Saturday

EDINBURG, April 12 – Mrs. Emma D. Wirey passed away at her home on South Walnut Street at five o'clock Thursday morning, following several years of invalidism and a critical illness of the past two weeks.

Mrs. Wirey was born near Edinburg April 8, 1870, and observed her birthday anniversary last Sunday when members of her family gathered to spend the day by her bedside. She was the daughter of James and Ellen Park Wray and was married William Wirey, January 25, 1893. The husband and seven children survive. The children include three daughters, the Misses Hazel, Lillian, and Hesper Wirey at home; Mrs. Roy Hinkle, of Greensburg; Mrs. Edith Taulman, of Columbus; two sons, Ralph Wirey, of Indianapolis and Floyd Wirey, of Edinburg with six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Other survivors are three sisters, Mrs. Ida Coy and Mrs. Wilbur Coy of Edinburg, and Mrs. A. L. Hupp, of Decatur, Illinois; and three brothers, Omer and Green Wray of Edinburg; and C. G. Wray, of Indianapolis.

The remains will be returned to the home at noon Friday. Friends are invited to call at the home and to attend funeral services at the Christian church, Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Cyrus Herod, assisted by Rev. Glenn O. Mills, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Edinburg Resident Dies after Serious Illness

Mrs. Emma D. Wirey, 75, wife of William Wirey of Edinburg, died at 5 o'clock this morning at the family home after being in failing health for several years. Her condition become serious a week ago.

The body was brought here to Flanigan, Reed and Hall funeral home, but will be moved back to the residence at 510 south Walnut Street in Edinburg at 10 o'clock Friday Morning where the casket will be open.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Edinburg Christian church of which she was a member, and burial will be made at Rest Haven cemetery.

Mrs. Wirey was the daughter of the late James and Ellen Parks Wray and passed her 75th birthday on April 8.
