Sarah "Sally" Wells was the daughter of Andrew Edwards and his first wife Anne Merrifield. Her mother died when she was very young and her father married a widow named Anna (Buckalew) Bean, who had four children of her own, so she was no doubt raised by her step-mother.

Married John Wells, son of Richard "Tidley" and Jane "Jinney" (Brown) Wells about 1820 in Ramsey Creek, near Clarksville, Pike County, Missouri.

Though born in Kentucky she came from a very well known Edwards family background in Capon Bridge, West Virginia. Her great-grandfather had Fort Edwards, one in a chain of forts built to keep the French and Indians out.

Her own grandfather, David Edwards, who lived in that area was killed by Indians enroute home after going to Winchester for supplies, leaving a widow and three very small sons. Sarah (Parke) Edwards then married Rev. Jonathan Shinn.
