Began management of Andrew's memorial in July 2021 when I discovered Find A Grave was managing the memorial created by Charlott Jones. I had communicated with Charlott in 2019 or 2020 about the EDWARDS memorials she had created, so I was surprised to find Find a Grave acting as the manager of many of them in July 2021 when I was re-kindling my research efforts for my paternal line.

SUGGESTED EDIT FROM BECKY B (# 51501045) - Received 7 May 2023: This is a wonderful contribution to Andrew's memorial. I have changed the location of Andrew's death as I agree with Becky that with Andrew's probate occurring in Adams county, Illinois, more than likely this is where Andrew died. Thank you, Becky; following is what she sent:

"Journal of Andrew's son Esaias: 'My Father died sometime in July, 1833. He died of the cholera. He sent for me the morning before his death...He also charged me to take charge of his business and settle it up honorable. I therefore, proceeded according to the law of the land, and administered on the estate of personal estate which was worth something like two thousand dollars, besides the estate which was divided, leaving from forty to sixty acres apiece. Inasmuch as there were considerable debts to collect and some of them of old standing and in bad hands, it was two or three years before I got the business accomplished." Andrew's will was in probate in Adams County, as was his property, and Esaias lived close enough to visit his father. Therefore we may conclude that Andrew died in Adams County, IL. (Sources on Andrew Edwards found in FamilySearch.org. Deeds of land purchases in Ursa Township, Adams County 1828-1829 not attached, but available at the Adams County IL Recorder of Deeds, digitized at FamilySearch.org.)' "

UPDATE RE BURIAL LOCATION CHANGE: 1 Feb 2024

I have finally spent some time researching Andrew's life to try to identify his "most likely" burial location as his memorial did not identify it when it was transferred to me. (FaG's purpose is to document an individual's final resting place). Today cremation is an alternative to burial, but in 1833 it was generally unknown in the United States. As such, Andrew's unknown burial location prompted me to search for the location.

Since Becky's input (above) identified Ursa Township, Adams County, IL as the place of Andrew's death, I first checked FaG and then went to the FamilySearch Catalog for that township/county for possible cemetery records.

(During this research I discovered Ursa Towship was located on the eastern banks of the Mississippi River, across from the state of Missouri.)

In FaG I was fortunate to identify a handful of cemeteries in Ursa Township and so checked to determine the earliest burials in each based on its memorials. Only Denson contained burials documented as occurring in or prior to 1833, Andrew's year of death.

In the FS Catalog for Denson Cemetery I located several pages of burials (Vol 3 of Cemeteries of Adams County, IL, published by the Great River Genealogical Society in Nov 1988). These records were made by Society members who "walked the cemetery", I assume within about a year prior to the publication, altho no dates were noted. The following description was noted on page 75 (Image 80 of 207):

"It is at the north edge of Ursa . . . in the middle of a field. It is fenced but in very bad condition. It is not maintain: weeds and sprouts have taken over. The stones are very hard to see or find."

There is also a photo on the FaG cemetery page for Dension Cemetery that shows about 10 stones in a grassy field, but it appears at least 2/3 of each stone has sunk underground. The photo was posted 03 Feb 2015.

Finally, I remembered that I had been mailed a copy of a book by Lela Lillian Lones regarding Andrew's ancestry. Entitled: EDWARDS: Progenitors, Siblings, Descendants of Andrew Edwards" published in 1985, I received it from a distant cousin in Jan 2020 as Andrew was a younger brother of my 4X Great Grandfather, Jesse Edwards.

On page 130 of the above book I found a reference to Andrew's death and burial and it states "no record has been found as to where Andrew Edwards was buried. Due to the circumstances of his death, burial was probably made in a nearby burial plot".

Bringing all of the above together, I believe the Denson Cemetery is the most likely location for Andrew's burial: it is within Ursa Township where he lived, it accepted burials at the time of his death, it has NOT been maintained over the decades (allowing for damage to tombstones) and the FS record was compiled from a visual inventory of readable tombstones. Since we do not know if a stone was even placed at Andrew's grave and the cemetery is located in a field, chances are reasonable that Denson contains graves for which no tombstones were present/legible at the time they were "read" by members of the genealogical society.

Andrew was indeed a pioneer of Adams County as it was formed in 1825 and he bought his first land there in 1829. It therefore seems reasonable to conclude that Andrew Edwards was buried in Denson Pioneer Cemetery, especially apropos as he died only 8 years after the county was established.
