His biography reads:
"Capt. Hiram Knowles was born in NY State January 16, 1811, and was the son of Seth and Mary Knowles, who came to Delaware Co, OH, in 1816; thence to Knox Co, OH, until 1828, when they came to Scott Township, settling upon the Kennedy farm, then consisting of 160 acres. They reared a family of 8 children. The gentleman died in 1863, aged 77 years. Our subject has been a strong, healthy man all his life. He purchased 89 acres before marriage, but increased that number to 510 acres, being worth at one time $25,000. From his 40th to his 65th year, he was known far and near as a stock speculator, having once invested $30,000 in a single drove. He served as Treasurer of the township 25 consecutive years, also as Constable for 15 years. He was County Commissioner 2 terms."

Capt. Hiram Knowles, ex-County Commissioner and Marion Co. pioneer, died at his home in Scott Township, Thursday afternoon, aged a few days less than 85 years. Little particulars are at hand, but it is presumed that the venerable captain died from the infirmities of old age.

Capt. Knowles resided on the old Sandusky and Columbus mud pike near Latimberville, and was not only one of the well known characters of that vicinity, but was pretty generally know over Marion Co. Along in the seventies, he served 2 terms as County Commissioner, and was an official widely and favorably known. Many years were spent in stock buying, which helped to make him one of the best known men of his day. For the past 15 years, he has practically retired from active life, living quietly contented with his aged wife at the old home.

Capt. Knowles came to Marion Co. with his parents in 1828. At that time he was 17 years old, and his early career in Marion Co. made him acquainted with all the hardships of pioneer life.

__________
NOTE: Mention was made in Mrs. Knowles's obituary in the Marion Weekly Star that at some future point, her husband's remains would be relocated to Marion Cemetery. However
a) But no record at that cemetery office exists to confirm that.
b) Marion County Genealogy society books on Marion Cemetery also:
-1. do not show a mated record/headstone,
-2. do not show a record w/out headstone, -or-
-3. a headstone w/out record, as the sections were walked, then compared to official records.
c) No permit was pulled to relocate the remains, either.
CONCLUSION: There is no verifiable proof that his remains were removed from Kirkpatrick for reburial in Marion Cemetery.
