He was a farmer age 54 yrs, 11 mo, 21 days, residing at R.F.D. 1, Jonesville, Lee Co. VA, widowed by wife Carrie Collins, when he died at 5:30 a.m. 17 May 1945 after a 3 day stay at Lee General Hospital, Pennington Gap, VA, Rocky Station District, due to Pulmonary Embolus of 2 days duration [blood clot entered the lungs], Post operative Laparotomy Diverticulum of Caecum on 4-23-45 [operation for diverticulitis] signed by Dr. Setzler; and was buried 20 May 1945 in Vardy Springs, TN, by R.E. Estes of Pennington Gap, VA.
