Nellie Bernice Collins Shackleford, 55, died at 11:30 AM Tuesday [Feb. 26, 1974] in her Lafayette home. She had been at her job when she became ill, went home and died shortly after. An autopsy was being performed to determine cause of death. Born at Sneedville, TN, she was reared at Jonesville, VA, and moved to Lafayette in 1945.

In 1939, she was married to Eules "Shack" Shackleford, at Jonesville, VA. He survives and is employed at the Lafayette Water Works. Mrs. Shackleford had worked at the Lafayette Home Hospital laundry since August, 1972, and previously was employed 13 years at Hudlow's Laundry and Dry Cleaners. She attended Temple Beautiful Church.

Surviving with her husband are a nephew whom she raised, John Lee Gibson, at home; three brothers, Walter Collins of Jonesville, VA, Calvin Collins and Wiley Cleli Collins, both of Lafayette; six sisters, Mrs. Kate Fields, Mrs. Ethel Emery, Ruby (Mrs. Harvey Lee) Cowan, Mrs. Ann Jennings, Mrs. Gladys Roarke, and Dora (Mrs. Robert) Cain, all of Lafayette; also several other nephews and nieces.
